What is Dragetarr
Dragetarr is an art project made by artist Petra Ylönen. The project includes a whole fantasy world which is realized by graphic novel and different kind of art and design pieces.
Art comes in many forms: there will be drawing and paintings and fully posable art dolls. All of the art is tied to the story or to the Dragetarr world.

I am always creating something: crafting, drawing, planning a story or designing characters in my head. I have noticed over the years that I should never stop, because that simply makes me feel bad. That creative energy isn’t going anywhere. It needs to be let out.
My creative work is always about fantasy. That’s something you can’t find from day-to-day life, but I can bring it to life with my creations. I want to live in a world where fantasy is more present.
If I would summarize myself in three words they would be: creator, fantasy nerd and a dragon lover.
Don’t ask where my love for dragons comes from. I have no idea. What I do know is that I’ve loved them as long as I’ve known about them. Countless are times when I have had a dream of being a dragon. I would be able to fly and feel so powerful. It feels like as I would really know how it feels to be one. This feeling breaks my heart but it also fuels this art project. That’s the closest I can get to dragons. I can create them a world and give them stories and a life.
My story
I am forever grateful that my family supported my creativity by keeping me well stocked with art supplies when I was a child. I got to attend an art group for children, where I met my first art teacher. She was a strict Russian woman, and her influence will forever stay in my art. This woman told me once something that is probably any art teacher’s nightmare but still manages to bring a smile on my face even today. She told me that “Petra even if you draw a dog, you manage to make it look like a dragon!”. I’m sure she wouldn’t have guessed that here I am, almost 20 years later still drawing merely nothing but dragons.
Petra even if you draw a dog, you manage to make it look like a dragon!
Petra's first art teacher
There was a time when I stopped making art. I thought that now is the time to really come up with what I am going to do with my life. Art would not be a career for me. I spent 5 years trying to build a career for myself on something else, but I was never really satisfied.
I started studying graphic design in 2016. Funny enough, this was the closest to creative work I had ever gotten in my studying years, and anyway I knew from the start that this is not what I want to do. I had noticed that my dream job is to be a dragon doll artist. I barely finished my degree and straight from university, I started building Dragetarr.
This is where my life has brought me. I am trying my best to make my dreams come true. The fact that you’re reading this here means that you’re now part of this story too. Thank you for that. I hope you enjoy the world of Dragetarr.

Who is 'We'?
So who is the ‘we’? I Petra am behind the art and the project, but I’m not here alone. Right now there are two persons actively working on Dragetarr: me and my spouse Cesar.
